The Bar Council and the Law Society, in cooperation with our partners, are this year organising a second virtual instalment of English Law Week meets Russian Law Week, from 23 to 25 November 2021. The event will encompass issues of both Russian law and English law.

DAY 1: Tuesday 23 November - Legal updates in Russia/the UK

This Day 1 will focus on a selection of key legal updates and developments from the last 12 months from both Russia and the UK. The speakers will give presentations on the most important changes to legislation, case decisions and legal practice developments. Each speaker will give a presentation on a chosen topic using the high-paced Pecha Kucha format.

Day 2: Wednesday 24 November – Case Study

The format for Day 2 will be a case scenario discussion which will focus on commercial issues that can arise in HNWI divorces, including setting aside transactions, piercing the corporate veil and trust arguments (both formal and informal). Similar issues have arisen in high-profile Russian divorces that have come before the English Courts this year. These recent HNWI cases will provide the background to the panel discussion.

Day 3: Thursday 25 November - The future of the legal profession in the UK and Russia:

Opportunities and challenges including ESG, Covid and the Big Data Revolution

This session will focus on the recent major challenges due to the Covid pandemic and evolving ESG and Big Data trends that demonstrate the importance of business as well as legal community participation in the development of clear rules and building relationships with government authorities at all levels to address regulatory risks. The speakers will give presentations on legal consequences of the Covid outbreak and how to incorporate these experiences into new reality, on business transformation based on ESG (Environmental , Social, Governance) principles promoting sustainability intelligence, and on Big Data legal issues and how to avoid legal risks.
